Massive Diamond Found in African Mine

LESOTHO-- A massive gemstone that could be one of the largest of its kind had been found in a mine in Lesotho, in southern Africa. Gem Diamonds, which owns the stone says it has a flawless center and could produce a diamond that is 150-carat round-cut white diamond worth millions of dollars.

That would be a great deal bigger than the 105-carat Kohinoor in the Crown Jewels. Uncut, this stone weighs 478 carats and is the 20th largest ever found. The largest rough-cut diamond found was the Cullinan, in 1905, which weighed 3,106 carats uncut.

Company representatives say the stone has the potential to become one of the largest round-cut diamonds in the world.

The gem was discovered earlier this month at the Letsend mine in Lesotho, a small kingdom inside South Africa.
