Animal-lover Joe Mora was stunned when he saw a pigeon in a Queens playground painted purple.
Mora said someone “with a sick sense of humor” painted the bird that was unable to fly because its feathers were completely rigid from the paint.
The New Yorker said he tried to coax the young bird to eat while he found someone to help it. Licensed wildlife rehabilitator Bobby Horvath of Nassau County eventually was located through Animal Care and Control and took the bird.
Authorities said the 4-month-old bird may not survive the prank even though paint did not get into its eyes or on its beak. The paint could have seeped through its skin, however.
Police are seeking information about the person or persons who painted the pigeon purple.via
